Southern Fried Cabbage

Ingredients

  • 1 pound bacon ends and pieces, chopped
  • 1 onion, peeled and sliced thinly
  • 4 cloves garlic, peeled and minced
  • 2 medium cabbage, cored and chopped (about 5 cups)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Instructions

  • In a wide pan over medium heat, add bacon and cook, stirring occasionally, until it begins to crisp and render fat.
  • Add onions and garlic and cook until softened.
  • Add cabbage and stir to distribute. 
  • Cover, lower heat and cook until vegetable begins to wilt.
  • Add sugar, salt, onion powder, cayenne pepper, paprika, and pepper.
  • Continue to cook, stirring occasionally, for about 10 to 15 minutes or until cabbage is tender.
