I was flipping through an issue of Food Network magazine when their “50 milkshakes” insert fell to the floor and caught my attention. Call it serendipity but when I picked up the 4-sheet pamphlet, my thumbs were right on the page of this olive oil milkshake! Olive oil and sea salt in milkshakes? I was duly intrigued but ready to be disappointed. I mean, olive oil in milkshakes? Suprise, suprise! I. Loved. It. The addition of olive oil accentuated the creaminess of the vanilla ice cream and the sprinkling of sea salt balanced the overall richness. And the fact that the tablespoon or so of olive oil added healthy fats and good calories had me completely sold. Give it a try and let me know what you think.
- 2 cups vanilla ice cream
- 1/4 cup whole milk
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- sea salt
In a blender, combine ice cream, milk and olive oil. Process until smooth.
Pour into serving glasses and sprinkle with sea salt.
