G’s nephew, T, was feeling a little under the weather on Halloween, so he was not able to play dress-up and go trick-or-treating as planned. Understandably, the little boy was pretty disappointed. To cheer him up, G and I decided to have a late-night backyard movie marathon for him and his sister, K.
G set up a futon bed outside jn our small patio, and I took out from the garage a TV/VCR combo—remember those bulky TV sets from the ’90s?—I had been meaning to dispose of. Amen for well-built appliances—it still worked! I was glad, too, that I have a tendency to procrastinate. I had been meaning to donate my old collection of VHS movies to our local thrift shop, but never got around to bringing them in. Good thing, because T and K had a blast watching the spooky films for kids I’ve had for years.
Of course, what is a movie marathon without Orville Redenbacher’s Movie Theater Butter Popcorn? I popped a gigantic bowl and set out different powder flavorings, such as cinnamon sugar, Parmesan cheese, and chili powder (for me!) so everyone could individually help themselves to different flavor boosts. We had such a delicious time! I think I refilled the bowl with freshly popped kernels at least four times! T had such a grand time, I don’t think he minded missing trick-or-treating this year.
