We’re in the middle of a heat wave here in SoCal, so I’ve been making freshly-squeezed lemonades, flavored teas, and assorted agua frescas to ward off the horrible Summer weather. They’re a such a delicious respite from the heat, I’ve been gulping them down by the gallon!
What is Agua Fresca
Agua frescas are Latin American drinks made from fruit, cereal, grains, flowers, nuts, and seeds blended until smooth with water and choice of sweetener.
Ingredients such as milk, cinnamon, or fresh mint are also common additions for an extra layer of flavor.
One of my favorite beverages, hot weather or not, is this Strawberry agua fresca with milk. I actually would drive down to our neighborhood Mexican supermarket and brave the large crowd a few times a week so that I can buy a large plastic cupful of their fresa de leche.
Creamy, cold and loaded with fresh strawberry flavor, it’s as tasty as it is refreshing!
But with the current 100 F-plus outside temperatures, just thinking of going out the door makes me want to jump out of my skin. I’ve resorted to making my own Mexican fruit water at home. Quick and easy to make with just a handful of ingredients, you can have a cool and tasty drink to enjoy in no time at all.
Tips on How to Make Creamy Strawberry Agua Fresca
Blend the strawberries with enough water to help the blender process easily and then strain the mixture in a fine-mesh sieve to rid of seeds. In a large picture, combine the liquified strawberries, milk, condensed milk, and sugar.
Stir until well-combined, add chopped strawberries if you like, and chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve. Pour over ice in tall glasses and drink up!
This recipe is really more of a baseline you can modify to suit your tastes. Don’t like condensed milk? Use more sugar to sweeten the drink. Want a creamier taste? Swap all or part of the homogenized milk with evaporated milk. Or skip the milk altogether and the strawberry water is just as wonderful!

I want to make creamy strawberry agua fresca for my granddaughters 16 bday party, but can only get frozen strawberries. Will this work?

Solid recipe! Made this several times and I just can’t get enough of it. I’d give this 5 stars, though the texture was a bit too thick, kind of like a milkshake. But it was easy to fix with a 12oz can of evaporated milk so it wasn’t so thick and flowed out smoothly the way an agua fresca should be. Overall though, the very best!
