School Bus Rice Krispies Treats are as fun to make as they are to eat! They’re perfect as back-to-school snacks or teacher appreciation gifts!
How’s your week going so far? We are now on the second day of our Back-to-school series and I hope you’re enjoying all the fun food and crafts because I am having a blast sharing them with you!
Along with the chalkboard and composition notebook cupcakes, I have one more Back-to-school cupcake coming your way tomorrow. Today, it’s all about these super cute School Bus Rice Krispies treats!
Is there another word for cute? Or adorable? Because I think I’ve used these two words like a 1000x since I started this fun food section on the blog. Seriously, though, aren’t these back-to-school rice krispies treats the cutest ever? They’re just too adorable to eat!
How to Make School Bus Rice Krispies
These School Bus back-to-school treats are from ready-made Rice Krispies treats so there’s no cooking or baking involved. Just remove the bars from the packages and get on with the decorating!
The list of materials/ingredients below includes affiliate links on Amazon so you can readily find the supplies you’ll need. You can also get most of the items at your local crafts/baking supply store.
Ingredients
- 8-count box Kellogg’s Rice Krispie Treats
- Yellow fondant
- Black fondant
- Wilton Red Icing
- Rolling Pin
- Sharp paring knife
- 2″x1.75″ rectangular cookie cutter
- Mini round cookie cutters
- Toothpicks
Instructions
Unwrap each Kellogg’s Rice Krispie Treat and discard the wrappers.
With a rolling pin, roll out the yellow fondant to about 1/8″ thick. Dust a bit of powdered sugar on work surface and rolling pin if the fondant is
sticky.
Using the 2″x1.75″ rectangular cookie cutter, cut out the fondant into 8 rectangles.
Place a small amount of red frosting on top of each Rice Krispie Treat and lay one yellow fondant rectangle to cover the top.
Using paring knife, cut a small square out of each Rice Krispie Treat corner to resemble the shape of a school bus.
Using the rolling pin, roll out the black fondant to about 1/8″ thick. With the mini round cookie cutter, cut out 16 circles.
Apply a little bit of frosting on the back of the round black fondant and adhere to the school bus to resemble the school bus wheels.
Using the paring knife, cut out 24 small rectangles from the leftover black fondant.
Apply a little bit of frosting on the back of each small rectangle and place 3 on each of the school bus to resemble windows. Use toothpicks to secure, if needed.
Attach the small round plastic tip of the Wilton Red Icing and use the icing to make a red circle on the side of each bus to resemble lights.
Make sure to make a dozen. Or two. The kids will love giving these rice krispies treats out to classmates and teachers! Don’t forget to meet up here again tomorrow for another cool back-to-school tutorial. Enjoy!

- Using a paring knife, cut a small square out of the corner of each fondant-covered Rice Krispie Treat to resemble the shape of a school bus.
- Using the rolling pin, roll out the black fondant to about 1/8″ thick. With the mini round cookie cutter, cut out 16 circles. Apply a little bit of frosting on the back of each round black fondant and adhere to the school bus to resemble the school bus wheels.
- Using the paring knife, cut out 24 small rectangles from the leftover black fondant. Apply a little bit of frosting on the back of each small rectangle and place 3 on each of the school bus to resemble windows. Use toothpicks to secure, if needed.
- Attach the small round plastic tip of the Wilton Red Icing and use the icing to make a red circle on the side of each bus to resemble lights.
